Thermoplastics

Thermoplastics are the most common plastic materials today in use. They can be molded into many different shapes with many techniques.

Thermoplastics can be molded over and over again with heat. When the material is heated up it melts and when it is cooled down it becomes a rigid or flexible stable material. In Finland it is possible to find many different companies manufacturing all kinds of products out of thermoplastics.

The main production methods for companies manufacturing thermoplastic products are,

• Film extrusion (packaging film, plastic bags)
• Injection molding (mobile phone covers, technical parts, consumer items)
• Blow molding (bottles and canisters)
• Thermoforming (Engine covers, trays)
• Rotational molding (Tanks and other hollow parts)
• Other (many different methods like calandering, coating, foaming, covering and welding)
